Linen Options to Elevate Your Event!

Upgrade Your Linens

Table linens, napkins, and runners that come standard with our packages can be exchanged for luxury options that will enhance your event's overall look and feel.

Exquisite linens can be the statement piece of a table which will save money later on when wedding venue decorations won't need to go the extra mile to compensate for, essentially, a standard empty table.

Textured tablecloths such as lace overlays, as seen below, allow for that "White Wedding" look with hints of color from the base linen peeking through.

It could be the significant detail that sticks with a guest as they look back on how elegant the evening felt.

linens.jpg

Sometimes subtle lace accents are too demure for the type of event you're envisioning.

If you're looking down a more glamorous avenue, but the idea of collecting a dozen sparkly centerpieces is daunting, perhaps some dazzling sequined linens are exactly what you need!

All the glitz and glam are apparent immediately upon entering the room, allowing for simpler decorations, a thrifty trick!

sequin linen.png

Farm Tables with their minimalist motif tend to need large sprawling garlands down the center to make the table seem less empty.

Decorative runners could be the economical solution to this issue. With bright pops of color to tie in with the floral arrangements, a fun napkin choice can polish everything off for the perfect constructed tablescape!

Sweetheart vs Head Tables | Pt.2

Welcome Back For Part Two!

In Part One of this topic, we discussed all the perks of a Sweetheart Table over a Head Table. Now it's time to fully explore the benefits of this grand feasting table design to see if it's right for you!

Head Tables: For All of Your Knights and Ladies In Waiting

As mentioned before, Head Tables can come with their own difficulties, but with an appropriately sized bridal party, they can be a perfect fit! Medium to small-sized bridal parties (4-10 people total, including the Bride and Groom) are what Head Tables are perfectly built for.

Historic Traditions

Royalty kept only the most trusted people close to them at meals. Without getting too into the history, it was a matter of safety and propriety, which determined where guests were seated. So today, we seat those that the Bride and Groom want to honor closest to them for their friendship and loyalty in their lives. Usually the Best Man and Maid of Honor, these people have helped support the happy couple throughout their relationship, not to mention all of the wedding planning mayhem. Placing them next to the newlyweds as a way to honor them give them the thanks they deserve seems only natural.

Family Matters

Family is an enormous part of weddings, and we wouldn't want anybody to feel left out. Some couples stick everybody who was part of the processional of their ceremony at one table. Meaning the happy couple, the bridal party, all parents, and any other significant members all come together again, essentially creating an XXL Head Table. Here the love birds can be in the thick of all the fun, and surprisingly, it works out flawlessly! Their bridal party, full of people practically family to them already, is sometimes too big. It makes sense to be with them in the middle of the festivities. Your family and closest friends are all going to want to talk to you anyway; you might as well join them so everyone can be able to sit and chat!

Tired Of The Spotlight?

Let's say you don't particularly care for the spotlight 100% of the time, and you want to be seated with your family. We suggest trying a Family Table. Introverted and family-focused couples love this option, especially when so much stimulation over the course of the day gets to be too much. The extra support you'll receive surrounded by those already begging at the chance to help will be a relief. This option is also smart for pinching a few pennies since you won't need to order extra tables and decorations!

Sweetheart vs Head Tables | Pt.1

Choosing Your Royal Dias

Wedding planning can be exhausting, and one of the hardest parts is planning out the seating chart. After worrying about where and how your guests will be sitting, some couples forget to seat themselves!

Choosing whether you want to sit close to your bridal party and family or on your own throne as wedding royalty can be a tough choice. The decision between a Head Table and a Sweetheart Table comes down to most couples' preferences or logistics. If you and your honey aren't particularly swayed in one direction over another, here's some detailed information about both options to help you decide.

Sweetheart Tables

A Sweetheart Table is exactly what it sounds like: a table meant for only the "Sweethearts." It will be one of the few designated places you and your significant other will be able to--frankly--escape the hordes of your adoring fans. There won't be many moments over the course of the night where the two of you will be able to have private moments to yourselves, and having a designated seat away from the crowd might be exactly what you need.

A Remote Island Getaway

This table acts as a liferaft in the sea of your enthusiastic family members and will become your perching place for those few precious moments that nobody needs you for anything. Plus, everything on the table only comes in two's, so you can afford to decorate! Without worrying about making 100+ copies of everything and buying in bulk, you can customize your special space all you want. Make it look like the table of your wildest dreams—or your wildest Pinterest boards!

Photographer: By Amy Lynn Photography, Florist: KO Floral Designs.

No Need to Have Your Friends on a Leash!

Having your own table also grants your bridal party the freedom to mingle and pursue their own agendas throughout the night without feeling like they have to ask permission to leave the table. Most bridal party members will also be bringing a date, and they'll want to be seated close to them. The Sweetheart Table keeps your honored friends out from under the spotlight and in a better position to help entertain your other guests.

It's All About The Numbers.

Speaking of bridal parties, have you considered the size of your whole crew? Plus their dates? If you plan on seating only the designated bridal party with you, hopefully, their "Plus Ones" know somebody else to sit and talk with at their tables...

In general, extensive bridal parties tend to look a bit excessive if they're all seated away from the rest of your guests at a Head Table. A group of people over twelve thick is tough to seat properly, especially if they're all looking out in the same direction since you wouldn't want anybody's back to the rest of your guests. That can mean your head table is now around eighteen feet long! (If you want to talk to the ones at either end, start practicing your smoke signals now.) In this situation, unfortunately, those whom you wanted closest to you can end up not being the most remote.

Musical Chairs

Think back to other occasions where a large group of friends and family got together at a restaurant. One of the biggest seating issues is making others have to get up or scoot their seats in every time you need to get up. Honestly, at your wedding, you only get to sit and relax for a total of about 45 minutes, if you're lucky, and if the toasts are long. You're going to want every second of that seated peace enjoyed.

This seat-shuffling issue is removed by having a Sweetheart Table. It also makes you seem more approachable to your guests. Nobody wants to cause an inconvenience by imposing themselves on someone else's space. By removing additional bodies, a direct line of traffic can form between your excited guests to you. Thus, creating a quicker flow of interactions and a more time-efficient process for the event overall.

Sentiments and Symbolism

Sitting at a Sweetheart Table can also be the first gesture a couple can make together in their married lives. It can signify that they are a single united entity forging a future path of their own. Many couples choose this option for that reason, as well as the privacy it allows. Whispering sweet nothings in the ear of your freshly wedded spouse, without worrying about an audience, can keep the romance alive on such a crazy day.

Still Can't Decide?

With all of this said, the idea of a Sweetheart Table doesn't sit right with some couples. They want their bridal party right at their sides, or they love the thought of a Head Table's ability to make a bigger design statement.

Keep an eye out for Part 2 coming next week, where we'll explore the other side of this decision and all the Head Table benefits!

Dinnerware Upgrades!

Bring your place settings up to the same level as the rest of your table decor! Dinnerware, meaning the plates and chargers, is the largest part of a place setting and could dull your table with common plates. Using a combination of decorative china, chic stoneware, and striking chargers, your tables will shine! We’ve collected some of our favorites from previous clients who knew how important the right dinnerware was to their event motif.

China Plates

Printed Patterns

Fischer - August 10, 2019 Walter Wilson Photography (1).jpg

These are pretty enough to make your grandmother’s tea set jealous. What better way to share an occasion than serve guests dinnerware that says romance with every bite? These delicate plates are perfect for garden parties, formal outdoor events, Bridal and Baby showers, or even Spring season events like Mother’s Day!

Embossed

china.png

For something a little more classic but still traditionally “romantic,” these plates are our favorites! An elegant, white raised pattern covers the border of this upscale dinnerware. Subtle details, like these embossed plates, can draw out a whole sub-level of detail to complete the look of your table. There are tons of style options for this as well, so if you're looking for something fun but not as rustic, our coordinators have got you covered!

Solid Colors

china.jpg

Are white plates too plain? Try some colored or decorated options! With these, launch your event from tame to stunning!

Stoneware

Menear 9-7-19 Brogen Jessup Photgraphy- Reception Details (3).jpg

A welcome refresh to white china, Stoneware perfectly compliments a modern minimalistic or chic, rustic tabletop design. Reminiscent of hand-made pottery, Lisbon Stoneware looks amazing on the finest linens or against natural wood-grain tables. Mix and match with Paris Stoneware for a unique look all your own.

Chargers

Chargers add an old-world class to events and, ever mindful of being stuck in the past, choose a style that brings out that same elegance with a dash of modern imagination!

Brown-Ellis - May 31, 2019 Laurie Ashley Photography.jpg

Hammered and polished to a brilliant finish, our gold chargers will bring warmth and luster to your table setting. Studded, plain, ruffled, and brushed, these chargers come in different styles to best fit your overall motif!

Wood

Hovden 10-6-19 Madeline Barr Photography- Details (43).jpg

The graceful lines of our Valentin wood chargers add visual appeal to your table with a discernible texture and two different finishes: a grey wash and a natural dark acacia wood.

Woven Wicker

Polak 7-27-19 Jordan Bakey Photography (51).jpg

The best part about a rustic-chic motif is the fun of mixing everything together! Grand metallic chargers can be swapped for these adorable woven mats and a classy cute napkin ring for polish! They're versatile, go with nearly every color, and add texture-- an often forgotten detail genre-- to an otherwise flat tabletop. We love these and your guests will too!

Ratan Mats

Round Brown Rattan Charger Plates create a rustic feeling to your tabletop decor. With a woven design and deep brown color, it can be used with any color dinnerware to protect the table from spills and messes while exuding a warm and inviting feeling.

Glass Sunburst

Bring a work of art to your tabletop! This charger’s irregular edge catches the eye and adds an exquisite touch of shimmer to your decor in gold, silver, and chocolate.

Glass With Gold Trim

Glass chargers with a gold band add an understated, fresh look to your table. A delicate glimmering accent along the rim makes this glass charger plate a glamorous enhancement to a plain table.

Summer 2021 Trendy Wedding Design Concepts

Thanks to COVID vaccine distribution, happy couples from 2020 are crossing their fingers, hoping their wedding dreams will finally come true. This Summer, weddings are bound to shock and awe guests with their bold statements and unique customizations!

Rising Hemlines

Knee-length, “tea-length,” and mini wedding gowns are some of the top keywords for 2021 dress trends. These options are easy to dress up or down, usually cost less than formal floor-length ball-gown shapes, and are super thriftable. Plus, with all the elopements, outdoor weddings, and out-of-the-box wedding locations, these shorter skirts might be better equipped for the varying environments.

Digital Invitations

With nearly everything being virtual now, it’s no surprise that sending event invites via snail mail is a thing of the past. Whether you’re looking at it from an eco-friendly perspective, a time and efficiency angle, or fully embracing the virtual culture, this seems to be the best fit for most couples these days. We plan on digital invitations to become the standard across the board soon.

Intimate Ceremonies

Most couples and their families are still concerned about the pandemic, so big ceremonies and receptions are still on ice. To still honor their wedding date, “Minimonies” and “Micro Weddings” are popping up everywhere. These wedding ceremonies take the spirit of elopement, minus the secrecy, and supplemented by all of the support from afar. These safe, intimate gatherings usually only have immediate family members and a tiny bridal party in tow, keeping the risk of spreading the virus to a minimum.

The Mountains are Calling

Couples are getting creative at social distancing by diving into the wilderness and gathering together in local, national parks. This fits the two big trends we’ve seen since last year with couples wanting to give their guests a one-of-a-kind experience and the passion for outdoor weddings.

Warm Over White Pallets

Green and white florals have been the go-to color combination for a while now, but we’re sensing a warm breeze blowing through. Couples seem to be gravitating towards rich, Autumnal tones reminiscent of the ’60s and ’70s. We’re excited to see warmer hues like burnt orange, deep burgundy, and vibrant purple making a comeback.

Summer 2021 Weddings will still feel “different.”

Unfortunately, COVID-19 will still be part of our reality for a while. However, now that wedding venues and coordinators have adapted to the new planning process, we're likely to see fewer delays, as well as safer gatherings. Dr. Anthony Fauci has been quoted saying that he believes the United States can reach “some degree of normality” by “the end of the summer, the beginning of the fall of 2021,” but we’re hopeful that it’ll be sooner!

Glamorous Goblets for Every Occasion!

Color doesn't have to only come from the flower arrangements! Spice up your tablescape by adding pops of color at each seat with these gorgeous goblets. These come in all different styles and shapes as well, so stick with one color or even mix and match hues to encompass the full spectrum of your wedding pallet.

colored-glassware.jpg

Bar Glassware

Have a signature drink? It wouldn't be an actual Mule without a copper mug! Your guests are sure to remember an eye-catching glass containing a tasty cocktail. Imagine your guests sipping elegantly from Martini Glasses or getting the party started with an authentic Margarita Glass in their hands. Authenticity elevates the look and feel of your event!

Inspiration For A Valentine's Day At Home

Homey Date Night, Done Right

We love celebrating love!! With the outside world still a little hectic, we foresee many couples keeping their Valentine’s Day dates close to home this year. To help make the holiday still feel special, we collected a little inspiration on decorations, food, and flowers for you!

Bring Out The Kid At Heart

Reach wayyy back to a time when arts and crafts were a socially acceptable way to decorate, and get ready to whip out those safety scissors! This year decorate your home with home-made hearts and paper valentines. We love the idea of making this a pre-holiday date night idea for you and your significant other, or even a Galentine’s night. Check out your local craft store and see what options they have for Valentine’s Day, even if it’s just finding a ream of multi red-hued papers. Cut out hearts to string together or fold each piece of paper into an abstract shape to tape to the wall in a fun heart-shaped collage. Devoting a night to some quality time reveling in artsy nostalgia is sure to warm a few hearts.

A Romantic Dinner For Two

We saw so many people hone their cooking skills during quarantine last year. Personally, we’re still not quite at Master Chef level. When we saw the article titled “24 Romantic Dinners Literally Anyone With an Hour and a Brain Can Make” by Elizabeth Stark and Annabel Iwegbue from Cosmopolitan, we felt a little more confident in ourselves. The recipes they’ve collected encompass multiple cultures, tastes, and dietary restrictions. Save the article and pick a recipe to wow your Valentine’s Day date with your cooking abilities!

Dessert with a Surprising Kick!

Is it just us, or do chocolate-covered strawberries seem played out? Try some “Shots Through the Heart” instead! These deconstructed Strawberry Margaritas are a fun twist on an old favorite and perfect for those in the crowd who might have a darker sense of humor towards this holiday. We got this idea from Personal Touch Dining, and with it being fairly easy to make at home, we felt we had to share it with our readers. We found some adorable heart-shaped pipettes on Amazon that were under $10 and looked perfect for the job. After mixing up our favorite classic margarita, we filled each pipette with our marg and gently skewered each strawberry halfway through into the hollow center. When you’re ready to eat dessert, squeeze the pipette so the liquid fills the hollow center of the strawberry, and enjoy!

Don’t Forget The Flowers!

A lot can be said through some mini blooms and single-bud vases. Decorate your dining table at home using these and a sprinkle of votive candles for the perfect romantic ambiance! Mini bloom flowers like the ones below are easy to find and come in pretty sizable bunches; pair them with a few single roses or peonies for a tasteful arrangement. Start by placing one rose or another flower of your choice in a few vases for the center of your table. Trim the stems of your mini flowers as close to the petals as possible so that they lay flat. Place any number of these directly onto the tabletop around the vases and finish off the look with a few candles. Your table at home will transform into a sweet and dreamy location for your Valentine’s Day date, and you won’t break the bank buying massive bundles of roses!

We hope you have a safe and healthy Valentine’s Day from all of us here at The Old Rancho!

Our Lower Garden

This area of our Rancho stuns our clients with how it feels so intimate yet simultaneously spacious.

Is it possible to make a space like this intimate garden look bigger after filling it up with tables? Apparently, it can be done! This garden getaway is tucked into the heart of our venue with lush natural beauty along its perimeter. With a second built-in bar for your guests, this shaded outdoor dining location is perfect for enchanting evenings surrounded by rich native plant life.

This flexible outdoor dining area works well for any event type.

We’ve seen elegant seated dinners, casual moving-style events, and everything in between. Depending on the mood of your event and what you know your guests will enjoy best, our Lower Garden can effortlessly adapt to your needs. Are your guests less likely to dance the night away, or would they rather stay at the tables to chat? From rounds to Farm Tables, there are endless arrangement layout combinations that will promote the best feel for your guests. Our Event Coordination Team will help customize the best option for your unique needs.

Minimize your décor costs!

When you’re already in the middle of so much bountiful greenery, there isn’t as much need for lavish floral décor. Eucalyptus and Pepper Tree branches are fantastic space fillers for long rope garlands, and bringing in similar greens as the scenery will make your event feel beautifully tied together. Or, save money by allowing your surroundings to do the hard work for you. Accent your dining tables with small blooms instead of green garlands and dazzle your guests with fun, artful metallic pieces.

Reach out for a floor layout recommendation for your event or any other décor ideas for this charming outdoor dining location!

Seating Chart Inspiration

It’s getting close to the big day. You never thought you’d have to choose between so many tiny details, and there’s one more hurdle you have to jump. The thought of going through your whole guest list and assigning every person a table or seat can seem intimidating. We get it. But don't be tempted to throw all caution to the wind, toss a big "Open Seating" sign out, and pray to the wedding Gods that all will work itself out. It never goes well.

Seating arrangements for your wedding will give your guests some direction and allow for a much smoother transition from Cocktail hour to formal dining. We cannot stress enough...We strongly recommend making a seating arrangement plan!

There are endless options to choose from when deciding how to display seating charts.

It all depends on the couple’s unique personalities and what they feel is right for their guests. Most couples choose to have one large seating chart that guests can easily read during cocktail hour. This option saves a bit of time and money since it functions alone, without the second step of escort cards. You can assign guests to certain tables and allow guests to choose their seat and sit next to whoever they want within the table assignment.

We especially love when our couples get creative with their seating chart! All that really matters is that it’s easy for guests to read, but we’ve collected some of our favorite examples below for better inspiration. It’s always so fun to see what our couples come up with!

Have Some Artsy, Eco-Friendly Fun With It!

We’ve seen couples transform old windows, doors, window blinds, and even old chicken wire from their local flea market into incredible seating charts. Let your imagination go wild and find something to repurpose or re-recycle again after your big day. Almost anything can be made to look like wedding decor with a little help from your florist on the day-of. Go a step further and write your guests’ names on leaves! Silver Dollar Eucalyptus leaves have a ton of space, and if you mess one up, there’s planty more since they literally grow on trees.

Why Is This So Important?

In the best-case situation, your guests decide to steal chairs and place settings from one table to another. Not a big deal? Wrong.

Each tabletop, depending on the shape, place-setting design, and table size, has a seating limit so that everyone can sit and eat comfortably. Since that wasn’t made clear, now everyone is knocking elbows and eating off each other's plates.

Plus, what about the now awkwardly empty tables they took the settings and chairs from in the first place? They're sitting there making your reception look like Swiss Cheese! Big empty holes in the crowd will stick out when looking back at group pictures. The dining space will seem patchy and threadbare, like moth-eaten cloth, and your photographer will have to avoid large whole-room shots.

Another sticky situation to consider is how people tend to collect in familiar Cliques. Rarely will your close friends and family members naturally intermingle. You can’t really blame them for choosing instead to socialize with those they are already familiar with. Weddings are supposed to be about connecting and expanding relationships, not just bunching off into small groups like in a cafeteria lunchroom. Seating charts are just a nudge in the right direction!

So we implore you: Please do future-you a favor and plan those seating arrangements!

Your guests will appreciate it, and you'll avoid any awkward seating choices for guests to make, especially if they don't know many people or come alone.

Here are some tips for the planning process:

  • No Procrastinating: give yourself about three weeks, from the start to the last seat, to map everyone.

    • Giving yourself this much time on the project will ensure that nobody gets forgotten.

    • There are bound to be late additions and cancelations. If everything is figured out weeks before the event, it won’t be such a task to add or subtract a seat or two from a table!

We suggest organizing and displaying guest's names alphabetically for easy searching, since organizing people by their table may take longer to find.

  • This project is all you’ve been thinking about for a hot minute. While it makes more sense on the planning side to display the arrangements where you finally decided to place them, everyone’s first inclination is to look for their names alphabetically. The biggest issue we see with seating charts is that someone skipped over their own name after searching through all the tables. We’ve been wired since we first learned the alphabet to think this way, make it easy on your guests and yourself.

Follow these steps, and the issues we mentioned won't be a second thought, allowing you to truly enjoy your big day!

Trendy 2021 Spring Wedding Design Concepts

We’ve Got That Spring Fever!

** To clarify: We mean that the newest 2021 Spring wedding trends are making us crazy excited for the start of this coming wedding season. Otherwise, thankfully, we are very healthy.**

Between centerpieces, wedding ensembles, signature drinks, and decor, we’ve collected a bit of every Spring-spiration you could need!

For example, what event atmosphere could be more perfect for a sunny Spring day than a Garden Party? Our Lower Garden area transforms into a blooming paradise during that time of year. Use all of that natural beauty to your benefit! With much of the floral decor already present, incorporate some gorgeous Farm Tables and other natural-wood decors in softer weathered colors to complement a pastel color pallet. We love the look of a complete set, matching tables and chairs, to collect the look you're going for in one fell swoop. This particular design choice also allows for less elaborate centerpiece decor since so much of the look resides in the furniture, so you can save a bit on florals!

Speaking of table centerpieces, our recommendation? Keep it simple, delicate, and sweet.

A collection of vintage single bud vases and some candles are all you’d need to achieve a soft Spring look on your dining tables. Depending on your design preferences, accenting this look with some fun metallic geometric shapes or an accessory that defines you and your partner would be the perfect way to finish off the tablescape.

In 2021, the wedding wardrobe is looking light!

We’re seeing lots of this beautiful platinum gray in both bridesmaid’s dresses and groomsmen's suits. It creates a subtle but sturdy base for many color pallets, not only Spring, and compliments a wide range of accent colors. You really can’t go wrong pairing it with a pop of pink to warm it up, a unique energizing sage for some fun, or even a more mysterious lavender. Greens are especially trendy this year, so feel free to explore that Spring color pallet!

If you’re having a Spring garden party, a lounge area for cocktail hour is essential.

We love lounges that complement our historic Spanish influence around our Rancho. For a Springtime event, the white Mexican Equipale chairs and sofas can be the focal area for your guests to relax while they enjoy refreshments. We’ve also seen gorgeous vintage sets help set the tone for a beautiful Spring inspired wedding.

Where there’s a Garden Party, there might be tea…

We don’t mean your Grandmother’s tea; we’re talking about something iced and probably spiked! Create a fun signature cocktail to serve your guests while they enjoy the Spring sunshine. They’ll love trying something fresh and new that reminds them of you. Garnish each with an edible flower to really seal the deal.

Farm Table Décor Inspiration

Table Trimmings And Garden Glory!

When deciding how to have your dining tables and centerpieces set, there tends to be much more to it than originally considered.  Chargers or none? Which type of plate? Silver or gold cutlery? Napkin color and fold? Favors? Garlands or vases? It just goes on and on. For those of us who aren't exactly visual, there might be too many details to imagine together.

Thankfully, we're here to help! We asked our talented coordination team here at The Old Rancho, and these are some of our favorite and most diverse examples of tabletop decor ideas. Hopefully, this helps narrow your search for decor and provide a bit more to visualize.

Spacious and Authentic

Many couples feel that the farm tables fit the tone that carries over from our historic Hacienda. Farm Tables also allow more elbow room for guests and space for large exciting centerpieces! The beautiful polished wood works so well with our Lower Lawn Reception Area. Surrounded by so much natural beauty, clients are drawn to the rustic romantic feel and want to emphasize it.

Tablescape Possibilities

There are endless combinations of glassware, silverware, chargers, and plates that we have available to make your tables look perfect on the big day. All it takes is some imagination! Start with a theme or mood you and your partner want to be the center of your motif. From there, napkin colors to centerpieces will start to fall into place. We love the rustic, “broody and beautiful” motif from Desire and Julian’s wedding here. Dark maroons, black, and bronze metallics brought an enchanting charm to our garden.
